Web Accessibility Commitment
We are working toward conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities. Conformance with these guidelines helps make the web more user-friendly for everyone.
What We Are Doing
Our accessibility efforts include:
- Using semantic HTML to support screen readers and assistive technologies
- Providing text alternatives for non-text content
- Ensuring sufficient color contrast between text and background
- Making all functionality available from a keyboard
- Not using content that flashes more than three times per second
- Providing clear navigation and page structure with descriptive headings
- Writing link text that is descriptive and makes sense out of context
- Ensuring forms have visible labels and helpful error messages
Physical Accessibility
The SparkLabs space is designed with physical accessibility in mind:
- Ground-level entrance with no steps
- Accessible restroom facilities on the main floor
- All primary work areas are wheelchair accessible with adequate aisle width
- Adjustable-height worktables in the electronics lab and digital fabrication area
- Designated accessible parking directly adjacent to the entrance
- Wide doorways throughout the facility to accommodate mobility devices
Program Accessibility
We strive to make all SparkLabs programs and events accessible:
- We provide accommodations upon request for classes and events
- Our instructors are trained to work with participants of varying abilities
- We offer flexible scheduling for members with accessibility needs
- Documentation and instructions are available in accessible formats upon request
Known Limitations
While we strive for full accessibility, we acknowledge that some content on our website may not yet fully meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards. We are actively working to identify and remediate these gaps. Known areas we are improving include third-party embedded content and older PDF documents.
